This COVA sponsors several workshops per year and in April hosts a Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon where member organizations are encouraged to invite their volunteers. The outstanding Rome/Floyd Volunteer of the Year is awarded at this luncheon.

                            Congratulations,
2010 Volunteer of the Year Linda Blankenship!

The Rome Council of Volunteer Administrators announced Linda Blankenship as its 2010 Volunteer of the Year on April 27th at a luncheon held at Berry College.  Ms. Blankenship was nominated by D’Ann Downey with Compassionate Paws.  Linda is a founding board member of Compassionate Paws and has been active since the board was formed in July of 2007.  She is in charge of the healthcare focus of the Pet Partners Program managing about 22 pet partners and helping schedule them at the various healthcare volunteer sites.  Linda also hosts the meetings of the Pet Partners at her home on a regular basis.  Linda and her dog Sawdust have brought many smiles to the faces of the patients they have spent time with over the years.  Linda and Sawdust currently visit the Roman Court, Mercy Senior Care, Golden Living Center and Aseracare Hospice.  Linda has also been a volunteer at Floyd Medical Center since 2008, giving her time in the Breast Center.

Amy Astin at Floyd Medical says, “Linda is a bright smiling face for the patients/families that come in and a worker that the staff can count on.  As a retired teacher, she is probably capable of handling anything and does it all with grace.  For such a tiny little person, she has a dynamic personality and we are quite fortunate to have a volunteer who is versatile, dependable and eager to help our patients in many ways.”

Congratulations also to the other nominees: Jim Burton, Augusta “Gus” George, Wanda Goodwin, and Ruthann Sargent.
