Volunteer Spotlight

Mr. Gordon Leiter
Heyman Hospice Care Volunteer

Gordon Leiter has been an active Heyman Hospice Care volunteer for 29 years, starting when he retired from GE in 1992, after 40 years of service there. Most of his service has been in patient care, however, he has been known to direct a bus traffic jam at the Senior Inform, attend every monthly in-service and sit with patients. Gordon carries out Floyd’s motto by always going above and beyond what is expected. Gena Cleland, Hospice Coordinator at Heyman Hospice says, “Mr. Leiter epitomizes the Hospice philosophy of adding quality of life to the end of life.”

In addition to volunteering at Heyman Hospice, Gordon has been active in Rome Little Theater, Meals on Wheels, First United Methodist Church, Chairman Senior Adult Council, American Red Cross, National Creative Society and Rome Area History Museum.  He is also an AARP Tax-Aide volunteer where he provides free tax help from February to April 15 and also serves as a Local Site Coordinator, District Technical Coordinator and an Instructor.   Gordon and his wife Peggy, have 3 children and 14 grandchildren.
